Table based on ASTM A370-68, Table III.
Shows approximate relationship of hardness values to corresponding approximate tensile strength values of steels. Compositions and processing variations may deviate these relationships. Data does not represent hardness-to-tensile strength conversions for austenitic, ferritic, and martensitic stainless steels. More precise conversions should be developed for specific compositions and heat treatments. Related Rockwell superficial hardness numbers may be found in ASTM A370-68.
